Tante Marie’s 30th Anniversary

May 2009: I had absolutely no idea that hosting the 30th Anniversary of Tante Marie's Cooking School would mean so much to so many people! First of all, what we tried to do was contact all the past graduates of the Full-Time Culinary School to invite them to a dinner at my home on Saturday evening.

I had absolutely no idea that hosting the 30th Anniversary of Tante Marie’s Cooking School would mean so much to so many people! First of all, what we tried to do was contact all the past graduates of the Full-Time Culinary School to invite them to a dinner at my home on Saturday evening. And then, we invited everyone to come to a street party the next day in front of Tante Marie’s Cooking School.

The dinner was really, really fun! The caterer was T.T.(tmila@sbhsi.com) who made a delicious veal stew with polenta and asparagus. Over sixty people came and had a blast greeting each other and watching a slideshow of all the past classes. We honored Chuck Williams of Williams-Sonoma for all that he has done in the last 50 years to bring excellent quality cook ware to this country. A real highlight of the evening for me was when six of my teachers honored me by saying how much Tante Marie’s has meant to each of them. Thank you Jessica, Farina, Jodi, Margaret, Jen, Catherine, Christa, Frances and most important Peggy for all you do to make Tante Marie’s a success.

The next day was even more fun! The music by Jeff Jolly Band was great; the food made by the Culinary and Pastry students was fantastic; and even the weather was gorgeous! We think that over 800 people came by. What we did was set up tables and umbrellas in the street in front of Tante Marie’s. At some of the tables students were assembling long buns of Grilled Asparagus with Cherry Tomato Feta-Vinaigrette; and round buns of Roast Leg of Pork with Caramelized Onions and Fennel with Salsa Verde. And, at other tables little fruit tartlets were served with small cakes made by Tracy of The Buttercream Studio. A magnificent bouquet of flowers was given us by
